Our mission is to connect and support people spiritually, physically,
emotionally and intellectually in crisis and/or joyful situations throughout all stages of life. We will visit and support those in need. We will provide fellowship and education that embraces the whole body, mind and spirit.
The role of the Parish nurse is as a health counselor, educator, referral source and facilitator of volunteers. We do not provide hands on care or perform invasive procedures. We will help you access available resources.
We can be reached through the Pastor or the church office.
Blood Pressure Screenings are available on the first Sunday of the month after services.
From the Parish Nurses - I would like to share with you some information about two dangerous games: “the choking game” and “dusting”. Young people ages 9-?? are participating in these types of games. They are perceived by our young people not to be dangerous or life threatening.
“The Choking Game”
This game has been played for many years. A
tie or belt is placed around the neck and
tightened and released just before one passes
out. The reduced blood flow and lack of
oxygen to the brain causes lightheadedness
and the release allows a surge of blood back to
the brain which causes a “rush.” Often this
game is played alone causing death.
In groups, the game is played by holding your
breath or by giving each other “Bear Hugs, or
by choking each other with their hands. When
our brain is starved of oxygen our brain cells
begin to die very quickly by the thousands
which can cause severe brain damage.
“Dusting”
Dusting is Huffing (inhaling) cans of “Dust-off”
brand compressed air. It gives one a slight high
for about 10 seconds. It makes you dizzy.
Most kids think that it is “Just compressed air,
It can’t hurt you” They are WRONG. It
contains a propellant, a refrigerant and it is a
heavy gas which causes the oxygen to your
brain and heart to be decreased. You can die
within 2 seconds of the hit.
What can we do? Talk to our young people. Encourage them to talk to us about such behaviors. Be aware of the aerosols in our homes and how often you replace them as well as what odor they leave behind. Watch for severe headaches, blood shot eyes, marks on the neck, raspy breath, belts, ties, scarves, etc found around the house and an unusual need for privacy. To learn more about these and other “games” log on to Guidancechannel.com or teenwire.com or simply google “the choking game” or “dusting.”
